1-in-50 insured U.S. homes have a claim related to non-weather water damage each year[1]. Whether it’s a bursting pipe or a leaky appliance, home water damage can seem as if it’s beyond anyone’s control. It no longer has to be, with new smart water shutoff devices. Nationwide Private Client customers can now benefit from a new relationship with Flo by Moen that gives them more control in protecting their homes.

Agents that offer this added layer of protection are not only better protecting their client’s homes and the assets within, they are unlocking opportunity for increased customer satisfaction and higher retention rates by offering solutions that go beyond a standard policy endorsement. In most cases, there are opportunities for savings that agents can offer to qualifying clients, including credits on home insurance premiums.

“Smart home solutions give Private Client policy holders even more control in protecting their home,” said Paul VanDenBosch, president of Nationwide Private Client. “Most people don’t even think about the risks associated with leaky or frozen water pipes that can cause serious water damage, until it’s too late. Customers can leave home with peace of mind, knowing the main water line can be shut off instantly—before a leak becomes a nightmare.”

How it works

The Flo by Moen Smart Water Shutoff is a leak detection and water monitoring device that is engineered to detect water leaks and automatically shut off the water in the event of a failure. If clients have ever wondered how much water they are using, the system’s mobile app will allow them to track home water data in real time, sending alerts if a leak is detected in the property. Clients can set water consumption goals in the app and monitor daily usage. The system also runs daily health tests to look for possible vulnerabilities.

The device offers better protection that most clients need. Moen has found that 50% of homes have a leak that is detected upon installation. When fixed it can provide serious savings on water costs. Policyholders may also be eligible for additional savings if clients qualify for a credit on their homeowners’ policy upon installing the device.
